Historic Roses Group
Step into the world of historic roses……
If you love beautiful "old-fashioned" roses, the Historic Roses Group is for you. The HRG aims to encourage interest in timeless older roses, explore their rich history, and enable everyone to grow and enjoy roses of the past today. Founded in 1990, the HRG celebrates the importance of unique older roses of historic importance, including rare or unusual garden roses no longer widely grown, wild (species) roses and their magnificent hybrids.
The HRG is a friendly group of rose enthusiasts with subscribers all over the world. Our members meet for day visits to gardens with interesting older roses, enjoy exclusive annual tours to see rose gardens in Britain and abroad, and can learn practical skills in workshops. Members can help at our stand in shows around the country, meet fellow enthusiasts and help spread the word about the joys of historic roses. Twice a year our members also receive the Historic Rose Journal free to read about the intriguing history and cultivation of older roses.
Our beautiful website offers plenty of information about old roses, the publications we produce for sale and also details of all our events and activities. This year 2023 we will be visiting beautiful rose gardens in Wiltshire as well as an evening of wine and roses at Sissinghurst Castle with Troy Scott Smith.
In addition we have an open Facebook page which anyone can access and an Instagram account.
Following the very sad death of Michael Charlesworth the post has been taken on by Michael Marriott.
A membership subscription for the Historic Roses Group only costs £15 a year or £50 for 5 years – so do join us and step into the fascinating world of historic roses!
